Oversight of the Madison village area’s drinking water is conducted by the Anson/Madison Water District. The AMWD serves 1,015 Madison customers with a distribution system consisting of near 90,000 feet of pipe and 115 hydrants. The district is governed by a publicly elected board of Trustees (four from Madison, three from Anson). For properties outside the district, drinking water is provided from private wells.
Current Madison Trustees:
John "Jack" Ducharme (2027)
Jeff Lloyd (2026)
For more than 20 years the district was staffed with local hires. In 2021, the AMWD Board of Directors contracted with Maine Rural Water to oversee the day-to-day operations of the district. Calls to the local number (696-4221) will be forwarded to Maine Rural Water headquarters in Richmond, Maine.
